ANTHONY VALENTINE

 

 

‘Firsts’; Anthony was born in Blackburn, Lancashire and appeared in his first movie at the age of ten; it was two days work in a film starring Eleanor Summerfield and Terence de Marney, entitled “No Way Back”, and so it proved.  His first Television appearance came at the age of eleven and his first theatre play, at twelve, in “Whiteoaks”, at Bromley. The same year he also sang at Sadler’s Wells in a season of Italian Opera. At thirteen; his first major movie role and at sixteen, his first appearance in the ‘West End ’ in “Anniversary Waltz”.

 

Probably his earliest notable television was in the series of ‘Billy Bunter’ and ‘Vice Versa’ for the BBC, since then there have been series of ‘An Age of Kings’, ‘Callan’, 'Codename', ‘Colditz’, ‘Justice’, ‘Raffles’, ‘Minder’, ‘Robin of Sherwood’, ‘The Fifth Corner’; which was shot in Los Angeles and three series of ‘The Knock’ for ITV.  Other television includes the role of Erhart in ‘John Gabriel Borkman’; Lord Olivier’s first television play and 'The Avengers', 'Softly Softly', 'Space 1999', 'Tales of the Unexpected', ‘Body and Soul’, ‘Riders’, ‘The House of Elliott’, ‘Lovejoy’, ‘After The War’, ‘The Fear’, ‘Bergerac’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’, ‘Airline’, ‘Van der Valk’, ‘Stay Lucky’, ‘Trainer’, ‘Boon’, ‘Hannay’, 'The Bill', ‘Dangerous Corner’, ‘I Have Been Here Before’ and  ‘The Dancing Years’.  Recently Anthony has been working on ‘Judge John Deed’, ‘Waking The Dead’, 'New Tricks', ‘Poirot’, ‘The Commander’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘The Last Detective’ and ‘Nuremberg’. 

 

His films include: ‘The Monster Club’, ‘The Damned’, ‘To The Devil A Daughter’, ‘Performance’, ‘Masada’, ‘Escape To Athena’, ‘The Terrorist’, ‘An Age of Treason’, ‘American Cuisine’, ‘The Dirty Dozen’; ‘Fatal Mission’, ‘Midnight Orchid’, Jefferson in Parisand most recently, ‘Two Men Went To War’.

 

Anthony has worked extensively in Repertory Theatre around the country.  For 'The Mill at Sonning', he also wrote and directed ‘The Waiting Game’.   In London he played Ronnie in Arnold Wesker's play 'Chicken Soup With Barley' at the Royal Court Theatre.  His ‘West End’ theatre work includes: ‘Anniversary Waltz’,‘Two Stars for Comfort’, ‘The Platinum Cat’, ‘The Shifting Heart', '‘Half a Sixpence’, ‘Sleuth’, ‘No Sex Please We're British’ and ‘Hans Andersen’ at the Palladium'.  He was recently at the Wyndham’s theatre in the award winning ‘Art’ by Yasmina Reza, this was followed by Webster's ‘The White Devil’, at the Lyric Hammersmith.
